Position Description:

The Texas A&M University College of Nursing is accepting applications for a full-time, administrative faculty position as the Executive Associate Dean. This position is for a tenure eligible role at the rank of Professor, beginning in 2021 with a negotiable start date. The Executive Associate Dean in the Texas A&M College of Nursing has primary responsibility for providing visionary leadership in planning, implementing and evaluating baccalaureate and graduate academic programs which anticipate nursing workforce needs in a dynamic health care environment. This individual provides administrative oversight of academic affairs and faculty affairs that are under the direction of associate and assistant deans. This individual provides leadership in assessing program needs and recruiting, retaining and assigning highly qualified faculty to meet the identified needs. The Executive Associate Dean creates an environment committed to diversity, equity, inclusion and healthy communication within the College of Nursing and Texas A&M University to promote student and faculty success. This individual works collaboratively with other college administrators and faculty in implementing the college’s mission and vision.

The College of Nursing is one of five health science colleges within the Texas A&M University Health Science Center. Drawing from their vast network of scientists, educators and clinical partners, they educate highly qualified graduates who are equipped to address the health needs of an ever-changing population in Texas, the nation and the world. While the College of Nursing is relatively new – established in 2008 – they are rapidly growing in academic program offerings and excellence in research, practice and education. The college offers three Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree tracks, Traditional, Second Degree and RN to BSN, and three Master of Science in Nursing degree specialties, MSN-Family Nurse Practitioner, MSN-Nursing Education and MSN-Forensic Nursing. A DNP program is progressing through the approval process and planning for an innovative PhD program is on the horizon. The prelicensure BSN programs are located in Bryan, Texas as the primary campus location and Round Rock, Texas as the distant site location.

The College of Nursing is home to the Texas A&M Health Center of Excellence in Forensic Nursing, earned the number 9 spot in the U.S. News & World Report’s national rankings for best online MSN degree program in 2021 and was recently re-designated as a National League for Nursing (NLN) Center of Excellence in Nursing Education in Creating Environments that Enhance Student Learning and Professional Development. Within the last three fiscal years, research funding has more than quadrupled and their clinical partnerships continue to expand, surpassing 350 clinical partner sites across the state of Texas with more than 40 percent of the locations providing care in medically underserved areas. The baccalaureate degree programs in nursing and master’s degree programs in nursing at Texas A&M University College of Nursing are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education through December 31, 2030.

Responsibilities:

A. Administration
  1. Assures college compliance with the Texas Board of Nursing regulations, Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accreditation standards and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) accreditation standards.
  2. Coordinates the nursing accreditation and center of excellence designation processes, including documentation and on-site or virtual evaluation preparation and implementation.
  3. Oversees implementation of College of Nursing and Texas A&M University assessment policies and procedures to assure compliance with nursing and SACSCOC accreditation standards.
  4. Oversees daily academic operations of the college and provides input into the use of fiscal and physical resources.
  5. Creates synergy across the responsibilities of the Assistant and Associate Deans and program coordinators.
  6. Assesses faculty needs across academic programs, and provides leadership in recruiting, employing and retaining highly qualified faculty to meet college needs.
  7. Collaborates with the Dean, Associate Dean for Finance and Administration and academic deans to oversee teaching assignments for the academic year based on program needs.
  8. Oversees academic and faculty support services including orientation, support for professional development, instructional design and academic clinical placement.
  9. Collaborates with the Associate Dean for Research to promote the scholarly productivity of faculty.
  10. Collaborates with the Associate Dean for Clinical and Outreach Affairs in negotiating, developing and maintaining faculty practice agreements with participating agencies in consultation with the faculty member.
  11. Establishes productivity and workload standards in consultation with Assistant Deans and faculty.
  12. Assesses faculty workload at least annually, including Texas A&M University System reports, and shares data with the Dean, academic deans and faculty.
  13. Assures that course and instructor evaluation data are obtained, and shares data with academic Deans and faculty.
  14. Accountable for executing a continuous quality improvement plan (i.e., Total Program Evaluation) and processes including academic program evaluations, including data collection and analysis, and provides summary reports to the appropriate education committees/individuals/university offices/accrediting and certification bodies and other external entities.
  15. Participates in the annual evaluation of faculty and staff.
  16. Oversees faculty travel procedures and requests for funding and makes funding recommendations to the Dean.
  17. Coordinates program and college data acquisition and reporting for state, regional, and national organizations as requested.
  18. Collaborates with the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs to communicate with current and prospective students regarding their status in the programs.
  19. Monitors student achievement of program outcomes, apprises faculty of these data and collaborates with faculty and administrators to promote student success.
  20. In collaboration with the Associate Dean for Clinical and Outreach Affairs and academic deans, negotiates, coordinates, evaluates and assures compliance with clinical agency agreements.
  21. Creates and maintains open communication and working relationships dedicated to diversity, equity and inclusion within the college, the Health Science Center and with other Texas A&M University colleges and offices to facilitate student, faculty and staff success.
  22. Collaborates with administrators and faculty to plan, implement and evaluate strategies for successful operation of the college, consistent with the College of Nursing Strategic Plan.
  23. Collaborates with the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs to serve as an intermediary in academic grievances within the college.
  24. Responsible for all academic documents and processes including reports, rankings, catalog, faculty evaluations and handbooks.
  25. Maintains, applies, and communicates with others, as appropriate, about college policies, recommends needed revisions and assures that policies in the College of Nursing Faculty Handbook are current.
  26. Assures currency of undergraduate and graduate catalogs.

B. Teaching: Teaches at the undergraduate or graduate level depending upon needs and administrative priorities.

C. Scholarship
  1. Participates in scholarly activities at a level consistent with rank.
  2. Mentors junior faculty in scholarly activities.

D. Service
  1. Serves on College of Nursing and Texas A&M University committees as outlined in College of Nursing Bylaws or as appointed.
  2. Serves on the Dean of Faculties Faculty Operations Council.
  3. Serves as liaison to the Texas A&M University Office of Organizational Effectiveness and Evaluation.
  4. Serves as a resource person for faculty and students.
  5. Serves as a mentor and role model in community and professional service activities.

Reports to: The Dean of the College of Nursing

Required Qualifications:
  1. BSN or MSN in nursing and doctoral degree in nursing or related field.
  2. Current unencumbered or eligible for licensure as an RN in Texas.
  3. Experience leading curriculum changes, quality improvement and continuous improvement.
  4. Experience in managing groups of personnel including interviewing, hiring, evaluating and counseling, and terminating personnel.
  5. Successful baccalaureate and graduate teaching experience with at least five years of academic administrative experience in nursing
  6. A substantial record of scholarship justifying appointment at the rank of Professor with tenure. 
  7. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with individuals and groups.
  8. Appropriate membership and active participation in professional organizations at state/national levels.

Desirable Qualifications:
  1. Experience with Advanced Practice Nursing programs.

With a population of 133,000, Round Rock, TX is located 15 miles north of Austin in the Central Texas hill country and one of the fastest growing suburbs in the nation and one of the best managed cities in TX, and for good reason. Often described as a ‘bit little town’ where everyone is part of the community. The area offers cultural activities, a sense of community, and simply a good quality of life with sports facilities, friendly bars, great restaurants, and miles of nature trails and thousands of acres of public parkland just a short walk away.
