The next Dean plays a pivotal role in advancing the academic and administrative functions within the School of Health Sciences collaborating with faculty, staff, and administrators to enhance the quality of education, foster innovation, and promote student success. The Dean provides strategic leadership to ensure that it reflects the mission and core values of the college: collaboration, equity, excellence, inclusivity, innovation, integrity, and respect.
Reporting to the Vice President of the Division of Learning, the Dean will join a team of highly committed colleagues who are dedicated to serving the students and the community while maintaining successful student outcomes. The Dean represents the School to internal and external stakeholders and cultivates an open and responsive culture that invites feedback and new ideas. The Dean serves as an advocate for the School’s educational programs, providing leadership to faculty and staff to ensure consistent high-quality standards in curricula and programs that meet the needs of students and the region. The Dean oversees the academic integrity of the School and provides leadership in planning, budgeting, curriculum, program development and scheduling. The Dean oversees the hiring, support and professional development, scheduling, and evaluation of School faculty and staff. The Dean ensures compliance with various accrediting bodies as well as with Maryland and federal regulations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a visionary strategy to enhance the quality and reputation of our health sciences programs.
- Academic Excellence: Ensure academic rigor, innovation, and relevance in curriculum design and delivery.
- Faculty Development: Recruit, mentor, and retain top-tier faculty members who are dedicated to excellence in teaching and research.
- Student Success: Foster a supportive learning environment that promotes student success, well-being, and professional growth.
- Community Engagement: Cultivate strong partnerships with healthcare organizations, industry leaders, and the broader community to enrich experiential learning opportunities for students.
- Administrative Leadership: Ensure organizational accountability and oversight for the allocation of resources, the development and performance of teams, the cultivation of culture, and the achievement of program outcomes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in one of the disciplines supervised.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience at a Chair or Associate Dean level.
- Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience at two- or four-year colleges or universities.
- Demonstrated success in strategic leadership in an academic setting, preferably in health sciences at a community college or similar institution.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
- A visionary mindset with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

About the Institution
The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) is a public, regional community college with campuses in La Plata, Hughesville, Leonardtown, and Prince Frederick, Maryland. About the School
The School of Health Sciences is on the Hughesville campus in the newly built 50,000 square foot space. The School encompasses three Departments: Science, Health, and Nursing. The faculty teach face-to-face, online, hybrid, and hy-flex classes. The mission of the School of Health Sciences is to empower students in their personal, academic, and professional lives by expanding their knowledge of life, physical, and health sciences and enhancing their skill in using scientific reasoning and critical thinking.
