Academic Career & Executive Search is pleased to assist Manchester University in its search for an Assistant/Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmacogenomics.

As the first in the country to offer a Master of Science degree in Pharmacogenomics (MS in PGx), Manchester University remains a leader and at the forefront of one of the newest and most exciting fields of science: personalized medicine, also known as precision medicine.

This position is a 12-month tenure-track (FW campus) pharmacogenomics and pharmaceutical sciences faculty position.


Essential job functions: Consists of three domains: teaching, service and scholarship.


Teaching (55-65%)

  • Provide quality instruction in on-campus and online didactic courses and laboratory courses in pharmacogenomics and related topics.
  • Collaborate with other faculty to further develop the Master of Science in Pharmacogenomics program for effective delivery of the curriculum with emphasis in the distance-learning environment and dual degree PharmD/PGx. This includes creating, developing and evaluating innovative teaching methods which prepare students for the application of pharmacogenomics in a wide variety of settings (e.g., research laboratories, clinical laboratories, clinical settings).
  • Work closely with the laboratory technical specialist to keep the pharmacogenomics lab supplied and in regulatory compliance.
  • Serve as course coordinator in both the pharmacogenomics program and the pharmacy program, as assigned.
  • Develop and teach elective courses in both the Pharmacogenomics program and the Pharmacy program, as necessary.
  • Continuously strive to incorporate and introduce timely topics and cutting-edge concepts in relevant areas.
  • Be an exemplary professional role model for students and colleagues.
  • Provide a one week (40 hour) lab course to develop distance learners, and others (such as relevant pharmacogenomic companies).


Scholarship (15-25%)

  • Lead and participate in the scholarship of discovery, application, integration and teaching in Pharmacogenomics services.
  • Pursue fundable programs appropriate to the faculty member’s discipline and interests (on-campus primarily).
  • Disseminate the results of scholarly endeavors in appropriate forums, including publications, presentations and teaching.
  • Mentor and collaborate with other scholars both inside and outside the institution, as appropriate.


Service (15-25%)

  • Serve as a faculty mentor to on campus and distance-learning Master of Science in Pharmacogenomics students.
  • Serve as a faculty mentor to Pharmacy and PGx Students.
  • Participate actively on College and University committees.
  • Serve as a faculty advisory to student organizations, as necessary.
  • Serve as a mentor to new faculty and staff, as appropriate.
  • Contribute meaningfully to departmental and College developmental and planning activities, such as retreats and workshops.
  • Participate in local, state and national professional organizations and professional development activities.
  • Participate in community service activities, as appropriate, for the faculty’s area of practice or as determined by the College or University.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.



  • Doctor of Philosophy or terminal degree in pharmaceutical science with a focus on pharmacogenomics.
  • Understanding of current pharmacogenomics education and application.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with students, faculty, staff, administrators and other stakeholders.
  • Effective presentation skills.
  • Ability to deliver course content through distance-learning platforms.
  • Ability to provide effective feedback.
  • Ability to adapt to changing teaching and learning environments and content-delivery methods.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues and collaborators.
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities, meet deadlines and manage time.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Basic computer proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, e-mail and internet use.
  • Commitment to continuous self-improvement and professional development.
  • Expertise in more than one area of study or research, e.g., pharmacogenomics, pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidates with experience teaching pharmacogenomics or related topics (e.g., genomics, biochemistry, molecular biology, human genetics)
  • Individuals with pharmacogenomics laboratory experience, especially microarray technology, delivering distance learning
  • Candidates with interest in a teacher-scholar model of education
