Davis College seeks an experienced, results-driven strategist and instructional innovator to bring their proven record of accomplishment in the design and development of blended and online models and competency-based education in technology, education, sustainability, and entrepreneurship. As the first Vice President of Academic Programs in a rapidly growing global network of campuses, this is an opportunity to have a meaningful impact on the future direction of the organization and impact students across the globe.


Serving as the first Vice President of Academic Programs, the successful candidate will build on the foundations created through existing academic partnerships with Entangled and Accenture to accomplish their goals:

 

  1. Establish the vision and goals for the overarching global academic model.
  2. Leverage the existing curriculum to create a scalable and replicable competency-based curriculum model for use across a wide variety of diverse learning and geographical contexts
  3. Set strategy for the selection of new majors and specializations, including course structure for both diploma and bachelor programs of study.

 

The ideal candidate will have experience setting academic strategy, designing and developing innovative, learning experiences, blended and online models and competency based education and share Davis College’s passion for technology, and sustainability, entrepreneurship and increasing accessibility to education and employment opportunities for all.

 

This position reports to the Chief Academic Officer and is based in Washington, DC.

Responsibilities

Academic Strategy

  • Work directly with the CAO to establish the vision and goals for the overarching global academic

model.

  • Create strategy for:
    • curriculum development, revision and migration of content to the appropriate technology platform,
    • curriculum methodology and mapping for a competency-based, blended learning academic model;
    • selection of new majors and specializations for diploma and bachelor programs in diverse geographic contexts including East Africa and Asia; andinstructional innovation and learning practices including student-centered teaching, personalized learning, blended and online learning, experiential learning, and assurance of learning.
  • Deliver best-practice approaches in the presentation of concepts, principles, information, and skills as they relate to competency-based education in a blended learning environment.

 

Curriculum & Instruction

  • Manage the Director of Curriculum Development and Instructional Design.
  • Manage all aspects of the curriculum development process, including review of curriculum delivered by the development team for alignment to standards and modalities.
  • Working with internal and external stakeholders and using both paid and open sources. create a global, competency-based curriculum model that encompasses multiple Akilah/Davis learner journeys
  • Develop a curriculum framework that leverages existing models at Akilah, continually evolving that framework to realize our strategic direction and goals.
  • Lead on the scalable design, development and implementation of curriculum content, training materials, training modules, teaching aids.
  • Research and implement new instructional strategies to remain competitive in the delivery of education.
  • Research emerging technologies and their application to teaching and learning.
  • Drive the development, implementation and management of content related partnerships with major publishers and 3rd party content providers.

 

Academic Assessment

  • In collaboration with the data team, design curriculum evaluation strategies that deepen our knowledge of what strategies impact what outcomes for students; use that data to lead the periodic curriculum and modality review process to ensure continuous improvement of and market relevancy of curriculum.
  • Conduct learning needs analysis to identify the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to complete courses and programs efficiently and effectively.
  • Oversee curricular assessment from collection of data through reports that facilitate executive decision making related to the academic model, specific programs and instructional methodologies.

 

Other Responsibilities

  • Travel in the US, Asia and Africa as needed to support business growth and operations.
  • Actively engage with industry counterparts to stay current with the latest developments in innovative curriculum design; contribute to relevant partnerships and conversations.
  • Develop and manage the content budget and related content success metrics
  • Act as the internal spokesperson for content and learning experiences.
  • Maintain the appropriate records for program assessment and ensure that each college follows relevant accreditation standards that will be communicated by the VP, Accreditation and Institutional Assessment

 

Required Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree in Education or closely related field
  • Minimum of five years of experience in curriculum development and/or Learning & Development in a complex environment.
  • Two years leading teams of content developers.
  • Deep knowledge of and demonstrated ability to apply experience with curriculum design and development to create innovative learning experiences including instructor-led training, microlearning, learning games, virtual/augmented reality, distance learning solutions, etc. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to and experience with workforce education priorities including, but not limited to, non-credit/credit career pathways, stackable credentials, credit for prior learning, and work-based learning experiences such as internships and apprenticeships.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with:
  • blended and online models (modalities);
  • working with adult learner and ESL populations;
  • competency based education;
  • major open educational resource content libraries and how to incorporate existing content for rapid learning solution deployment.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive innovation and change to improve efficiencies and the effectiveness of learning solutions.
  • Ability to take initiative for planning, prioritizing and supervising projects, juggle and manage multiple, competing priorities and deadlines concurrently,
  • Exceptionally motivated by the idea of building a global community of lifelong learners.
  • An enthusiastic proponent and impeccable user of all available systems in order to continually drive improvements in operational efficiency; Proficiency with Canvas, Google Drive applications, Asana and Microsoft Office applications strongly preferred

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction strongly preferred.
  • Strongly preferred - At least one year of experience working with geographically dispersed teams preferred.
