Academic Career & Executive Search is pleased to assist California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) in their search for an inaugural position at the level of Associate or Full Professor in Electrical Engineering with the possibility of tenure.

The successful candidate is entrepreneurially minded and ready to develop and drive this new and innovative degree program. The ideal candidate has a history of program development, teaching success, industry and community partnerships, proven management experience and a hunger to lead this impactful program to success. Their pioneering spirit will serve them well as they develop and grow this new program.

Candidates must be committed to developing and launching an undergraduate-centered, pedagogically innovative, and modern Electrical Engineering degree program. Applications from contemporary areas of research are welcome, including embedded systems, sensors, IoT, renewable energy, power electronics, etc. The position will start August 2019.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • An earned Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or closely related field.
  • Demonstrated success in Electrical Engineering related teaching, undergraduate curriculum development, and research with undergraduates.
  • Commitment to the development of the new program
  • Demonstrated leadership at the department or program level, for example through involvement in performance review, program assessment, or diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively in an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community that serves the students of the region.

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in research-based instructional practices such as project-based learning or community service learning, curriculum development, and student support for diverse populations, especially those from groups underrepresented in STEM
  • Leadership experience with program development, program assessment, ABET accreditation, and industry partnership building
  • Active participation in professional societies such as the IEEE, the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, etc.
  • Experience working with undergraduates from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for underrepresented groups.

DUTIES:

The successful candidate will help build the new Electrical Engineering program. This includes:

  • Leading the development of curriculum and the design of instructional labs working closely with the Department of Physics
  • Teaching undergraduate courses
  • Effectively adopting evidence-based pedagogies and strategies to enhance student success
  • Recruiting future faculty
  • Performing schedule and enrollment planning
  • Working with industry and community partners to create and supervise senior capstone projects
  • The successful candidate is expected to develop an active research program involving undergraduates.
  • The candidate will contribute to activities serving the Program, College, University, and external community.

 

About California State University San Marcos (CSUSM)

CSUSM values teaching undergraduates and involving them in research. The campus is located on a scenic hillside 15 miles east of the Pacific Ocean and in the San Diego North County region, an area known for its temperate climate and growing technology industries. CSUSM currently offers a B.S. in Applied Physics, with an option in Applied Electronics, and has full approval for an undergraduate degree program in Electrical Engineering. The University was recently awarded a nearly $6 million grant from the Department of Education’s Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) STEM program to develop new degree programs in Electrical Engineering and Software Engineering. In addition to its HSI designation, CSUSM is an Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution (AANAPISI) and has been recognized nationally as an institution friendly to military veteran students and to junior faculty.

  • Description of teaching success and anticipated contribution to the development and implementation of an innovative, modern Electrical Engineering program that will serve a diverse population of students (up to 2 pages)
  • Description of research accomplishments and future research goals including undergraduate involvement (up to 2 pages)
  • Recent peer-reviewed publication
  • Three letters of reference must be submitted.
