The College seeks an accomplished, motivated, student-centered CEO to provide exceptional leadership as the next President. The Dallas County Community College District is in the midst of a transformational change to develop a student-centric instructional delivery system as part of an integrated higher education network. The District is endeavoring to utilize the network to create relationships between organizations, businesses, the seven colleges of the Dallas County Community College District and other institutions of higher education and secondary education, with the student at the center, whereby the talent, resources and facilities of the District and its Colleges will come together to meet the needs of students and employers.

 

This unique opportunity is available to either a proven Academic Leader or a highly accomplished C-Suite Business Leader.

The position is ideal for a cutting-edge leader with a proven history of strong partnership and collaboration skills, commitment to student access and success, teambuilding and results focused leadership. A strong financial acumen and the ability to balance operational and financial requirements effectively are crucial. The position also requires an entrepreneurial fundraiser with the ability to develop external partnerships. The position envisions a leader who can work collaboratively across the network to develop programs and partnerships which engage students and provide access points, resources and support to enable the student to be engaged in the community, overcome obstacles and barriers to success, and pursue opportunities wherever they may find themselves on their educational journey.

 

The President is the Chief Executive Officer of the College and reports directly to the Dallas County Community College District Chancellor. The President has responsibility for the operation of the College in consultation and coordination with the District Office.

 

The College President is responsible for leading initiatives which contribute to the vibrancy, growth, and economic stability of Dallas County for future generations, with primary emphases in areas of:

 

  • Student access and success.
  • Diversity and inclusion
  • Identification and implementation of academic and technical programming to support continuing education and workforce development.
  • Community outreach to extend partnerships, expand resources and share capacity to advance and build the District’s integrated higher education network in support of current and future students.
 

 

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • A well-developed sense of the student population to be served, built from a broad consideration of internal and external stakeholder input
  • An interest in, and a successful record of, strategic risk-taking, requiring the identification and elimination of barriers to the delivery of the required result.
  • An ability to build an organization designed to be responsive and nimble, innovative and effective as a results-oriented culture is reinforced.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit – in the development of partnerships – with and without funding – to expand the capacity of the College and the District in serving the population of Dallas County.
  • An ability to work collaboratively with other Presidents, District leadership and business, education, and community leaders to create and foster relationships and partnerships which leverage the talents, resources and facilities of the College and the District to meet the needs of students.

 

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Ensuring that the institution achieves high and measurably improving levels of student success in the areas of learning, completion, four-year transfer, post-graduation success in the labor markets, elimination of barriers to success, and closing gaps based on race and income.
  • College-based planning, development, implementation and evaluation of educational programming, consistent with the Board’s strategic priorities and with a view toward engaging with and building an integrated higher education network.
  • Developing the College budget to support current educational programs, while pursuing additional supportive resources – individual, programmatic, agency-based, public and private channels – to fund new and emerging program initiatives.
  • Reviewing staffing, organizing for efficiency and effectiveness, and developing effective leadership strategies to promote the value of diversity at all levels of the organization, and in all areas of selection, training, coaching, development, evaluation and supervision of College faculty and staff.
  • Participating in a wide array of collaborative discussions and efforts with the Chancellor, other District administrators, K-12 leaders and College Presidents to further the progress of the District and individual colleges in meeting desired goals.
  • Maintaining positive relationships with accrediting agencies and other governmental and/or public entities that have an impact on approval, development and delivery of instructional student programs/services.
  • Building strong alliances among community and business leaders to engage in problem-solving, to articulate those challenges and leverage available resources to promote positive solutions.
  • Modeling an effective communication strategy designed to promote confidence and transparency.
  • Making decisions which are data-informed, and strategically sound for both short and long-term initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and work collaboratively within a larger system.

 

 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Essential:

  • Earned Masters degree
  • Five years of management experience, including three years upper level administrative experience in a community college/higher education environment or in a business environment which is relatable or compatible with an integrated higher education network approach to the delivery of educational services to meet the needs of students, employers and the community.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and/or student services in an academic environment

or

  • Similar experience in a business environment which is devoted toward the marshalling of essential talent, resources and facilities to meet the needs of an identifiable cohort of consumers.
  • Demonstrated experience in oral and written communications confirming the ability to effectively research, organize and persuade diverse audiences, internal and external to the College and system.

 

Preferred:

  • Earned doctorate from an accredited institution
  • Academic presidential experience
  • Administrative experience in a comprehensive community college system

or

  • Business experience as an executive leader who has successfully engaged, integrated and managed a myriad of stakeholders, departments, business units, resources, facilities and assets.

Mountain View College is an open-access public community college with enrollment of 11,500. It opened in 1970 as the second of seven separately accredited colleges of the Dallas County Community College District. The school is in the Western Park, Oak Cliff area of Dallas, Texas.
