The College’s Health Sciences Center houses a state-of-the-art Health Professions Simulation Lab (HPSL) and advanced imaging equipment, providing students with highly realistic, hands-on clinical experiences. The Associate Dean of Nursing reports to the Dean of Occupational Programs, Business and Education and leads the College’s Nursing programs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Acts as ombudsman for the students in the areas of assigned responsibility.
- Recruits, selects, orients, supervises, and evaluates faculty and staff.
- Assists in the development and upgrading of curriculum, including the assessment of student learning for specific assigned disciplines. Assures that faculty are following Performance Based Learning model for curriculum development. Assures that curriculum submissions are in compliance with Curriculum Committee guidelines.
- Develops and maintains contracts with clinical organizations and appropriate College departments.
- Oversees all aspects of Nursing Department special events, ceremonies, graduations, and all other events.
- Responsible for preparation and management of assigned budget centers.
- Monitors enrollment trends and enhances scheduling process to meet student needs.
- Provides data, information and reports as requested by the college or outside agencies to maintain approval and continuing operation of the Nursing Education Programs. Also responsible for State and Federal reporting associated with the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act; providing information for or completing State and Federal or other reports as assigned.
- Manages and administers current and planned credentialing and accreditation initiatives with the appropriate agencies and organizations in collaboration with faculty and staff.
- Assists in student recruitment for the College.
- Assesses faculty development and makes recommendations for professional development.
- Maintains relationships with appropriate professional organizations and community partners to promote the college and enhance community relationships.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Writing skills: Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manual.
- Language skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
- Communication skills: Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from prospective and current employees, and groups of managers.
- Mathematical skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide with all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Reasoning: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master of Science degree in Nursing
- Current RN license and eligibility for licensing in the state of Michigan
- At least three (3) years of administrative or supervisory experience in a Nursing department or higher education setting
- Experience in budget oversight and personnel management
- Proven ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships with students, staff, faculty, and other administrative personnel and external partners
- Effective communication skills with a demonstrated ability to lead through shared decision making and foster a team environment
- Demonstrated organizational and managerial skills
- Experience with various technologies (e.g. LMS, ExamSoft, Teams)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Doctoral degree in Nursing or related field (ABD candidates will be considered)
- Three (3) years of teaching experience
- Experience with ACEN and NLN accredited programs
- Experience with simulation in nursing curriculum
- Experience working in a union environment

About the Health Sciences Center
Schoolcraft’s The Health Sciences Center (HSC) is a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to preparing students for careers in the healthcare industry. Spanning 110,800 square feet, the HSC houses 23 specialized labs and 10 lecture classrooms, providing a comprehensive learning environment for programs such as Nursing, Medical Assisting, Emergency Medical Technology, Pharmacy Technology, and Medical Imaging.
One of the standout features of the HSC is its focus on simulation-based learning. The facility includes realistic surgical suites, pharmacy labs, and emergency medical service (EMS) training areas equipped with modern technology. This hands-on approach allows students to practice clinical skills in settings that closely mirror real-world healthcare environments, enhancing their readiness for professional roles.
