The successful candidate is a proven, skilled leader poised to direct and guide the continued growth of the School of Nursing . The Director is dedicated to the goals of a teaching/learning university serving a diverse and first-generation driven campus.with professionalism and personal integrity.

The Director must be a skilled leader and communicator able to collaborate to ensure timely transmission of information between the School of Nursing, CEHHS Student Services personnel and relevant state and national credentialing agencies. 

As the chief administrator for the purposes of regulation and accreditation, this position includes the responsibility for the management of all personnel and programs, curriculum, budget and student activities. The applicant must have an understanding and demonstrate collaborative experience with faculty, building partnerships in local, regional and global settings. The Director practices and promotes shared governance, the School’s core values and CSUSM as a student-centered university dedicated to teaching excellence and active learning.  The Director advocates with college administration and other entities for adequate resources to meet the unit’s ongoing goals.

This position reports directly to the Dean and serves on the Dean’s Leadership Council.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • An earned doctorate in Nursing or related field (e.g., PhD, DNSc, EdD)
  • Three years of progressively responsible work experience in public higher education
  • Minimum of one year leading and/or supervising the work of faculty and staff.
  • One year of experience as an administrator with validated performance of administrative responsibilities
  • Two years of experience teaching in pre- or post-licensure nursing programs
  • One year of continuous, full-time (or its equivalent) experience in direct patient care as a registered nurse, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of prelicensure and graduate progression to the DNP is essential.
  • Must be eligible for RN licensure in California. 
  • Established leadership in nursing and nursing academia including effective administrative skills.
  • Record of scholarly teaching, research and service meriting appointment as a Full Professor including demonstrated research and publishing in area of expertise.

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated experience with program development, revisions, review and assessment.
  • Knowledge of face-to-face, accelerated, master’s as well as online and innovative programs.
  • Proven record of fostering student learning and academic excellence.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and implementing long and short-term goals.
  • Demonstrated organizational, leadership and effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrated continuity in leadership in nursing.
  • Consideration will be given to applicants with demonstrated intercultural competence with diverse groups in teaching, research and/or service.

DUTIES TO INCLUDE*:

  • Leads or oversees strategic planning for the School of Nursing.
  • Leads program planning, and development
  • Oversight of program accreditation evaluation and university assessment for School of Nursing programs.
  • Oversight of budget and ongoing expansion of programs and simulation.
  • Hiring and review of faculty as appropriate
  • Leads self-study, site evaluations, substantive change and revision submissions and all reports to the Board of Registered Nurses (BRN) and Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Oversight of coordination of  NCLEX (BRN examination) requirements for students.
  • Leads in the professional nursing community with groups such as CSU Deans and Directors, AACN Deans meetings
  • Member of various School of Nursing committees
  • Develops partnerships with other educational institutions, health care agencies, community and international organizations.
  • Chairs SON Community Advisory Boards and serves as a member of Community Advisory Boards of partner Schools of Nursing.
  • Assists in advancement of the School of Nursing by meeting with donors and brokering partnerships with other academic or clinical organizations for longterm funding.
  • Writes grants to develop and sustain nursing programs and partners with other agencies in writing grants for collaborative programs.

About the School of Nursing:

The School of Nursing is a successful, high demand program committed to excellence in education with pass rates of 98% - 100%. The current enrollment is 900. The School began in Fall 2006 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing program and now offers six nursing degree programs including an RN to BSN program in 2007, an accelerated BSN (ABSN) program in 2008 and a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program in 2009. In 2008, a satellite site was opened in Temecula to meet the rapidly expanding communities of Southwest Riverside County. Programs there include the ABSN, RN to BSN and MSN programs. The state-of-the-art School of Nursing facilities were built through the help of a generous $2.5 million donation by Palomar Health.

The School of Nursing resides in the College of Education, Health and Human Services at California State University San Marcos.
