The University of Akron seeks an accomplished leader and fundraiser with a demonstrated track record of success to serve as their next Dean. This position is ideal for a cutting edge, student-centric leader with a proven history of successful growth initiatives, strong partnership and collaboration skills, and results-focused leadership. The successful candidate will coordinate the development and delivery of academic programs meeting the demands of today’s workforce and students while enhancing the visibility and reputation of the existing business programs.
A solid record of innovative program development and enhancements along with the ability to build and develop successful community partnerships is required for success. This position offers exciting opportunities to provide strategic, and visionary leadership to a motivated group of faculty and staff in matters relating to curriculum and program development; accreditation, assessment and evaluation; recruitment and retention of faculty, staff and students; community engagement; research, scholarship, grant-seeking, and fundraising.
The next Dean is a collaborative, innovative and decisive leader committed to promoting excellence in all facets of business education. The College of Business maintains AACSB accreditation and one of only 1% globally to hold an additional accreditation in accounting. The College of Business was ranked among the top 100 undergraduate schools in the country and fourth in Ohio based on Poets&Quants rankings. The Princeton Review named the MBA program one of the best on-campus MBA programs.
Responsibilities:
The Dean of the College of Business is the chief academic, fiscal, and administrative officer with responsibility for the College’s instructional, research and outreach environment, including oversight of its $12 million budget, faculty recruitment and retention, advancement and external relations, student professional development and student academic affairs. The Dean is expected to provide vocal and visionary leadership on behalf of the College, to embrace the mission of public education in an urban environment, and to help create and implement a framework for excellence within the College that incorporates diversity and inclusiveness at its core. This deanship is an exciting opportunity for an entrepreneurial and dynamic leader, as the College seeks to grow enrollment while it also undertakes efforts to increase non-tuition revenue generation and further leverage strategic corporate and community partnerships.
This position reports to the Executive Vice President and Provost and leads a College of approximately 78 Associate and Assistant Deans, Chairs, Senior Director and Directors, faculty and staff.

The College enrolls roughly 1,800 undergraduates and 250 graduate students in 5 schools and departments, six centers and institutes, graduate and undergraduate professional development programs, four graduate degrees and three undergraduate degrees consisting of 11 different majors. The College of Business employs approximately 7 Associate and Assistant Deans and Chairs, 46 full-time faculty and 25 staff members. The College’s educational programs span five departments – Accountancy, Economics, Finance, Management, and Marketing. The departments, programs, research labs, and centers yield both applied and basic knowledge that provides the foundation for strong academic preparation, professional development training, and network building for students seeking degrees both within the College and across The University of Akron campus.

Required Qualifications
- Candidates may emerge from various experiences, achievements, and leadership histories both within and outside of the academy.
- Candidates should have substantial experience within their chosen professional track in leading large units towards significant growth and effectiveness.
- All candidates from the academic career path should have a terminal degree relevant to their discipline and those from outside the academy should be in a leadership role within their company and industry.
- All candidates should have a demonstrated record of administrative and managerial experience, in a corporate or business setting or within an academic environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- A vision for a college of business that is the college of choice within the region by prospective students and employers and evidence of translating that vision into action;
- Proven history of serving as a persistent champion for the college within today’s higher education landscape and to advocate for its growth;
- Demonstrated effectiveness in relating to diverse faculty, staff, students, and external constituencies;
- Commitment and history of success with interdisciplinary and experiential learning in the context of growing intercollegiate, community, and international partnerships; experience with extending and applying research, educational, and practice-based knowledge to help solve problems and foster learning within the community;
- Demonstrated examples of working effectively in an environment of shared governance; and success in managing organizational change in ways that are responsive to diverse constituencies and maintain practices of collaboration and collegiality.
