Under limited direction of the President, the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management is responsible for the oversight of all functions of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, which includes but is not limited to, developing, maintaining, and directing, the departments reporting to the Vice President. Departments include Enrollment Services, Financial Aid, Advising, Counseling, Campus Life, Housing and Student Conduct, Accessibility Resources and Testing, Trio Grant Programs, Tutoring, Multicultural Affairs, Intramurals and Recreation, and Military Affairs. The VPSAE also serves as a member of the senior level vice president and cabinet advisory groups to the president.

This position reports directly to the President.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform a coordinating role with the other vice presidents of the University and be responsible for the actions of the functional areas reporting to the VPSAE.
  • Coordinate policy formation and revision for the unit.
  • Supervise, provide leadership and be ultimately responsible for all the activities in Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.
  • Oversight of recruitment and retention activities of the University.
  • Coordinate and supervise the budget and the long-range planning.
  • Advise the president on all matters of student life and enrollment management.
  • Coordinate with the department directors in the hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating of staff employees.
  • Act as primary administrative liaison for students
  • Responsible for Student Affairs portion of orientation of new students.
  • Participate and assist in coordinating Student Affairs involvement in special events.
  • Act as Senior Judicial Adjudicator for the University.
  • Oversight and coordination of external campus lodging, medical, and dining services contracts/vendors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Knowledge of the goals, objectives, structure, and operations of a public university.
  • Knowledge of organizational development theory and practices.
  • Skills in budget preparation, fiscal management, and strategic planning.
  • Ability in program planning and implementation.
  • Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Knowledge of student recruitment, financial aid, and retention issues.
  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals.
  • Knowledge of student support programs and services.
  • Skill in establishing, directing, and enforcing policies and regulations that pertain to campus life and to student development.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 
  • A doctorate degree and a minimum of four years’ director or senior level manager experience in student services in higher education is required. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience and/or training in personnel management, student affairs/life, and student recruitment and retention is preferred.

Living in the Area

The ENMU-Portales campus, consisting of over 400 acres, is in Portales on the eastern border of New Mexico, in the Eastern New Mexico/Llano Estacado region about halfway between the northern and southern boundaries of the state. Portales, New Mexico is a small town located in Roosevelt County. It is known for its mild climate, friendly community, and vibrant culture. In addition to the university, Portales has excellent public schools, making it an ideal place to raise a family. Local amenities include various shopping options, restaurants, and entertainment venues, as well as recreational activities such as the Portales Municipal Swimming Pool, Portales Golf Course and a Recreation-Fun Center. With its tranquil atmosphere and access to nearby cities such as Clovis, Roswell, Ruidoso and Lubbock and Amarillo, Texas, Portales is a great place to call home. According to Sperlings Best Places to Live, the cost of living is 10.3% below national average, and the median house price is $132,800.  

The city's downtown area is centered around a traditional-style town square, based upon Spanish urban design. The Courthouse Square is ringed with retail shops and a recently renovated historic theater. Ideal for outdoor activities, the area offers numerous parks, museums and recreation activities. With a semiarid climate, Portale’s residents enjoy dry winters with brisk mornings and mild, sunny afternoons and warm summers when most of the rainfall occurs.
