Academic Career & Executive Search is pleased to assist North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (N.C. A&T) in their search for a Vice Chancellor for Human Resources (VCHR).

North Carolina A&T State University seeks a strategic and collaborative leader who can facilitate change to serve as its next Vice Chancellor for Human Resources. This critical role requires a strategic leader with a successful track record in strategic planning and HR management; talent acquisition, development and succession planning; and change management.

This highly visible position reports directly to the Chancellor and serves as a senior-level administrator and member of the Chancellor’s Cabinet. Experiencing record growth, increased retention and enrollment for over four years, the University enrolls over 12,000 students and employs 2,000 employees. This position oversees a staff of 24.

Responsibilities
In collaboration with the university’s senior leadership team and through the strategic planning, implementation, evaluation of university HR programs, the VCHR ensures alignment of the institution’s strategic plan with innovative human resource practices. These include: recruitment and retention; succession planning; performance management and professional development and training; compensation/position management; employee relations and affirmative action; benefits and workers’ compensation; HR information systems; communications; new employee orientation; and recognition programs.

The VCHR will create talent acquisition strategies to build strong pipelines across the university for future hiring needs and help frame career development plans. While the Office of the Provost has sole responsibility for the appointment, promotion, and tenure of faculty, all other human resources functions reside within the Division of Human Resources. It is vital that the Vice Chancellor for Human Resources translate institutional priorities into a vision for human resource programs that are responsive to the University’s needs.

Minimum Experience
  • Master’s degree in a related area
  • Eight or more years of extensive, successful administrative or managerial experience in a college, university or private industry setting
  • Evidence of strategic planning
  • Strong experience in talent acquisition and succession management
  • Demonstrated fiscal and human capital management expertise
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and team building skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • History of developing and implementing enhancements to human resource programs and policies
  • Entrepreneurial approach to problem solving and program development
  • Proven history of creating and maintaining customer-service focused organizations

Preferred Experience
  • Working knowledge of all programs and services encompassing employment as they relate to federal and state regulations
  • Advanced certificate in Human Resources preferred

The University offers 55 undergraduate degrees, 29 master’s degrees and 9 PhD programs.
