This is an exceptional opportunity to join America’s largest HBCU as the Interim Associate Dean for Undergraduate Student Affairs, College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. N.C. A&T is a strong and growing doctoral, research university currently designated “R2 / high-research activity” in the Carnegie Classification for Institutions of Higher Education. Its growth and development have set it on a course to attain the “R1 / Very High Research Activity” designation – one of several exciting institutional goals that N.C. A&T is pursuing. Building on this momentum, N.C. A&T welcomed this summer James Martin II as Chancellor and accepted an historic $20 million donation.
This well supported leadership position is ideal for a leader who enjoys a multi-faceted role that involves both collaborative and independent work across many areas. The Interim Associate Dean will have leadership experience and demonstrated ability to handle confidential information in the strictest manner, and deal with a diverse population of students at the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels, faculty and staff. The successful candidate must demonstrate energy, teamwork, cooperation, inclusive decision making, and genuine interest; and a commitment to improve academic achievement of students in the College; many of which are first-generation, Pell-eligible students.
The Interim Associate Dean will report to the Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. This is an assignment that may work up to 14 months based on the needs of the College. Candidates will be presented an opportunity to apply for the permanent role once available. Desired start date October 2024.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversight of the undergraduate and graduate curriculum planning, development and evaluation, and assessment of undergraduate and graduate programs
- Collaboration on academic advising and retention efforts
- Management of student complaints and grade appeals
- Working with the Admissions Office in undergraduate and graduate recruitment and new student orientation
- Working closely with the Office of Strategic Planning and Institutional Effectiveness (OSPIE) for assessments and student learning outcomes
- Collaborating with the University Student Success Office to improve the Aggie Experience for students
- Management and organization of student events for the College
- Assisting departments in developing, implementing, enhancing and evaluating undergraduate and graduate curricula
- Creating innovative initiatives that significantly improve both faculty and student quality in the College.
- Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting with the management of University / College-wide / Departmental accreditation and assessment procedures and working closely with the College’s Professional Academic Advisor and graduate program directors
- The candidate is expected to provide University and College service as needed
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Ph.D. in discipline/area of specialization suitable for a tenure-track appointment
- At least ten years of experience in higher education, with required administrative/leadership responsibility
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in building and managing complex academic programs, curriculum design, accreditation and assessment
- Exceptional interpersonal skills
- Established record of scholarly achievement in area of specialization
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and should be able to work independently and be a successful team player in the diverse setting that the College offers

The College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (CAHSS) enrolls more than 1,900 students and has more than 130 faculty members. CAHSS houses the Departments of Criminal Justice, English, History and Political Science, Liberal Studies, Journalism and Mass Communication, and Visual and Performing Arts. The CAHSS Dean’s Office has administrative oversight/responsibility for the six academic units and affiliated programs of the College, as well as for its faculty and staff.
