This is an exciting opportunity for a mission driven, outward facing leader to join Indiana Tech as the next Director for the Career Center. Unlike other higher ed institutions, Indiana Tech’s Career Center is firmly and visibly integrated into the overall mission and strategic plan of the College, making the scope of this role both highly visible and wholly integral through collaborative partnerships across campus and departments.
 
The Indiana Tech Career Center develops students to become career-ready through personal development and understanding, professional preparation programming, and experiences to practice job skills. The Director is responsible for the vision, management, and oversight of all facets of the Career Center, including Fort Wayne, regional CPS sites, and online programs. Additionally, the Director fosters employer connections with the university to connect students and faculty in support of internships, hiring, and academic program support.
 
The Career Center services include support for international students completing CPT/OPT, preparation of documents for the job search process, interviewing skills, researching prospective employers, recruiting employers to list with the Center, conducting an annual Job Fair, and developing and overseeing corporate connections for internships and job opportunities for students.
 
This position reports to the Vice President for Student Affairs.
 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Manage Career Center operations, budget, and staff
  • Provide overall vision and direction for the Career Center programs in support of the university’s career-focused mission
  • Foster relationships to collaborate with employer partners, faculty, and staff to support and enhance the services provided by the Career Center. Work closely with Enrollment Services, Academics, and Institutional Advancement staff/faculty, especially in remote locations, to develop and foster employer connections to the university to benefit students.
  • Manage and oversee the university’s internship program – academic and non-academic
  • Create and implement strategic initiatives in alignment with the University strategic plan
  • Develop/coordinate/manage programs and services provided by the Career Center
  • Manage the career-related events, including, but not limited to: Mock Interviews, Job Fair(s), internship recognition, etc.
  • Instruct, present, and/or facilitate various Career Readiness Training Courses including, but not limited to, Pre-Internship Seminar, Get Equipped, Don’t Cancel Class, etc.
  • Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) to update and maintain the SEVIS records of nonimmigrant students in F and M visa categories specific to OPT and CPT rules
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
 
  • Master’s degree in human resources, education, career guidance, or related field required
  • Knowledge in career development, internships, and job search strategies
  • Working knowledge of human resources practices preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
 
EXPERIENCE
 
  • Five or more years of Higher Education Career Center management experience, required
  • Experience networking with employer partners
  • Experience in creating and implementing marketing strategies
  • Ability to effectively interact in group and one-on-one settings
  • Ability to lead career-preparation and planning conversations and provide resources to campus constituents, i.e. academics, advancement, enrollment management

With its cost of living 21% below the national average, quiet neighborhoods and a population hovering at 260,000, Fort Wayne, Indiana, is an excellent place to buy a house, start a career, launch a business, and raise children. As a midsize metropolitan area in the heart of the Midwest, residents in Fort Wayne have access to the amenities one would expect to find in a large metropolis, like excellent entertainment options and a thriving restaurant and arts scene. Residents also encounter quirky special events, such as the yearly Busker Fest devoted to street performers and the annual bed race that takes place during the Three Rivers Festival.
 
Fort Wayne has numerous family-friendly attractions, including Fort Wayne Children's Zoo and Science Central. Additionally, kids can stretch their legs in the city's dozens of public parks. Running and cycling events are popular with residents of all fitness levels, with the largest being the Fort4Fitness running and cycling events. Meanwhile, Fort Wayne has a robust sports tradition.
