This is an exceptional opportunity for a dynamic Chair to step into a successful department of enthusiastic and collegial faculty and staff and shape the future for these programs. Housed within the School of Social Sciences, the Department of Business offers an ideal opportunity for the new Chair to innovate and grow programs, pedagogy, and experiential learning opportunities through external engagement while encouraging faculty to pursue growth in teaching and research. The University and the Department of Business pride themselves on small class sizes and high levels of accessibility and engagement with students.

UNC Asheville is a member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC), a consortium of 30 public liberal arts colleges and universities. The University is primarily a teaching institution, and while scholarship is expected, it is not the focus of the person in this role. 
The position is a 10-month, tenure-track appointment at the Professor or Associate Professor rank. This position includes some teaching responsibilities with release time for the position of Department Chair.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
Candidate will be expected to:
  • Teach courses in their area of expertise that complement the curriculum
  • Engage in service to the institution, the community, and the profession
  • Assure the high quality of Departmental pedagogy, learning practices, and curricular offerings
  • Mentor and cultivate strong faculty
  • Oversee scheduling and budgeting for the Department
  • Establish their scholarly activities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ph.D. required. All fields of business welcome to apply. 
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching with a student-centered focus, scholarly accomplishments, and university service reflective of levels expected of all faculty

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 
  • Understanding of undergraduate business program needs and ability to manage both the Business and Accounting programs
  • Experience and/or vision with expanding departmental programs  
  • Visionary - ability to think outside the box to expand the department as well as understanding how departments operate within the University
  • Appreciation of the liberal arts as well as the University’s core values and mission
  • Ability to spearhead student recruitment as well as enhance external-facing focus with stakeholders and the business community.
  • Appreciation of collegiality and interest in faculty development and mentorship of junior colleagues

Asheville is a short one-hour drive from Greenville, SC, two hours from Charlotte, NC and just 30 miles southeast of the Tennessee border, near Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
